Over the coming months we will publish further articles related to training, nutrition, physiology, physiotherapy, psychology and much more. The articles will span sports including Rowing, Cycling, Running, Triathlon and Swimming

Sport as a whole has progressed a tremendous amount in the last 10 years. A modern athlete needs to be able to develop all aspects of themself. Learn from your success and your mistakes, develop your mind as well as your body, and above all be prepared to make sacrifices to achieve your goals. Rowing is 99% training and 1% racing. You must develop the mentality of training to race, not racing to train.

We hope that you can use our support to develop your own performance and achieve your own sporting targets. Bookmark this site in your browsers favorites to always have quick access to our information. Good luck.

Tim Foster, MBE

Tim Foster, MBE Tim is training as a High Performance Coach as part of UK Sport's pioneering Elite Coach Scheme, which aims to fund talented young coaches of the future. Tim joined the first intake of the scheme in 2004 and is employed by the ARA with a grant from UK Sport.

Tim retired from competitive rowing in 2001 after a very successful career which culminated in his becoming Olympic Champion in the famous men's four at the Sydney Olympics.

In a long career he was twice junior World Champion and won bronze in his first year as a senior in the eight in 1989, winning a second in 1991. In 1994 he moved to the four with the Searle brothers and Rupert Obholzer, winning medals in three consecutive years including a bronze at the Atlanta Olympics. In 1997 his crew mates changed while Tim stayed in the four and with Redgrave, Pinsent and Cracknell, Tim won gold at the World Championships in 1997 and 1998. A major back operation kept him out of the four in 1999 but he gained selection again in the eight, playing a significant role in helping the eight raise its game to take World Championships silver. In 2000 Tim regained his place in the four and helped to make British rowing history with an exceptional row to take the Olympic title.

On his retirement from competitive rowing Tim decided to puruse a career in coaching. He worked at this old club, University of London, and found time to coach with the National Squad, gaining his firt international coaching success in 2002 when his coxed four took the World title. The crew included three of the athltes with whom he had raced in the eight in 1999.

Tim is currently working again in the men's Olympic squad.
